Learn from everywhere!!!! I learned through sport!!!!!!

What is meant by sport? Why sports are necessary?

Sports are meant to make people sportive. But the word sportive has been literally used only while playing the game or discussing about the game. But its not meant to be for that one alone. The word 'sportive' has been used everywhere even to describe the characters of the persons.

Good sportsperson will always be a good human being. I just don't wanna take the truth away form this statement just because of one or two exceptions(Shane Warne and Tiger Woods). The sportsperson will not only learn the nuances of the game but also the nuances of how to live, survive, struggle and come out victorious. These are the reasons why they are all great people.

To let you people know about this, am going to take a small incident from my life and explain it to you. Ya, its going to be a flashback.

One day we were playing a friendly cricket match with our immediate seniors(Murugesan and batch). But the match didn't look like a friendly match as it was headed towards a nail-bitting finish.

It is going to be the last over of the match. Am the one who is having the ball in my hand.

The opposition team has only two wickets in their bag. We need two wickets to win the match while they require only five runs to wrap up the match. All three results are possible.

The batsmen in the middle were Tennu (Karthick Anna, in case if anybody don't know) and Murugesan, their captain. Everybody in our team knows how dangerous he can be in these sort of situations. Currently he is at the non-strikers' end. I have to go in for a kill or keep Tennu on strike. If Tennu gets the single and given the strike to the captain, the game will be over. But we are not going to let that happen so easily.

I did deliver the first ball of the over which was a slower one that completely deceived Tennu. He had almost completed his shot before the ball reaches him. It was through to the keeper and no runs were added to the total.

Now they require 5 runs from 5 balls.

Tennu did manage to put the bat on ball and they did scamper through for the single.

Now 4 runs needed from 4 balls.

Murugesan is now facing the delivery. Am really looked forward to this challenge and it is going to be an riveting one.

Here comes Anand with the ball.

A wild slog from the captain that even the bowler can be able to breathe some fresh air. But he misses the ball.

Now 4 required of 3 balls.

He is too quick to realise that slogging won't help. But placing the ball in the gaps is enough to seal the match for their team. So he placed my next ball into the gap on the on-side. But it did went to the best fielder of the team(Tamil). Everybody in our team know they can't run more than 2. Because they want their captain to be on strike. But the fielders are literally yelling at Tamil to throw the ball to the non-strikers' end. He did throw the ball at very gentle pace. I was really surprised by that throw from Tamil. He will normally fire in the throw like a rocket from the boundary. He didn't want to give away any extra run. This was what pressure can do to you sometimes.

Everybody is having the eyes on both myself and captain.

He is just backing himself away to the on-side. So i just decided to bowl a wider delivery on the off-side. Even then there is a little margin for error which will cost you the match. I did bowled that one perfectly. He missed to get a touch onto that one.

The last ball is coming up. Still all three results possible.

  • Our team win
  • Seniors win
  • A draw

All eyes now shifted towards me.

I am running in slowly and casually as if we had already won the match. I know that my run-up was not right. I must have stopped, returned back and bowled that delivery. But i continued with that run-up and delivered the ball.

I think you know what the result will be?

It was a boundary on the off-side and they have just snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat.

All of them told me that they are confident that i will bowl the last ball well and seal the match for our team(Especially Pandi and Tamil). But i didn't fulfilled their wish. Am sorry for that guys.

I have learnt some great lessons on that day. I may have become a star in my department if I did have bowled that one delivery right. But it wasn't supposed to be. Otherwise there shouldn't be a story and a lesson. The defeat only will teach you the most important things in life. It definitely did it for me.

What did I learn on that day?
  1. We shouldn't get complacent until we reach our target or goal.
  2. Focus on what you are doing at this present moment. That's why it is called as PRESENT.
  3. We will always have some warnings or signs when we are going wrong. Don't neglect those signs which will lead you to your downfall.
  4. Don't be afraid of whatever hurdle you face.
  5. Keep your head calm under stressful conditions.
I did told you these things from the example i know. You may have learnt these lessons in a different way. But what is most important is that we do need to learn these things. We can be able to learn a lot of things just from a simple incident when we have an open mind an eye for detail. The future will never be a question mark for us when we do this.

PUNCHLINE
"Game is Life. Life is game"
There are many people who have "game" as their "life". But we have to realise that our "life" is a "game" for us. So don't let others play your game(life). Play the game(life) in your own way.
